Winners of the following Competitions will be presented with their prizes, Donegal Town Hardware, Quinn Meehan & Co, AIB Bank, E & J Oil, Magee of Donegal, Sandhouse Hotel, and La Bella Donna. On the same Friday there is Charity event in aid of Cancer Care West. Format is 3 Ball Scramble.Spring Concert at Donegal Golf Club (Murvagh)On Friday the 17th April a very enjoyable Spring Concert was held at Donegal Golf Club (Murvagh).The members were treated to the Tir Chonaill Youth Choir under the directorship of Bernadine Canny. They were then entertained by the students of Therese Campbell who included Mary Corcoran, Ciara McShane, Dominic Dmzewiecki, Aine Murphy, Aoife Breslin, Aine McGroarty and Conor McAllister. Next on stage was the teenage girl band Revolutionary.The second half of the Concert commenced with the Donegal Abbey Singers under the directorship of Eileen Carr and accompanist Laura Buckley with individual performances from Therese Campbell, Miriam Bennett and Richard Dobson. The evening finished with the audiences joining in with the Abbey Singers singing the Homes of Donegal.Ladies Golf Taster EveningThe Get Into Golf Ladies’ Taster Day takes place on Tuesday 28th April from 6.30-8.30pm. We are offering prospective lady members a chance to experience the game of golf. Activities will be organised including a chance to sample chipping and putting. Equipment and refreshments will be provided on the night. If you know any ladies who might be interested in taking up golf please encourage them to come along.Ladies Competitions Sandhouse Hotel 12th -14th AprilMary T Martin was the winner of the Sandhouse Hotel sponsored Competition played over the 12th & 14th of April. Will those going please put their names on the sheet in the Ladies’ Locker Room and indicate if interested in hiring a bus.Donegal Murvagh Golf Club versus Narin Portnoo FriendlyOn Saturday the 18th April ’15 the ladies Donegal Murvagh Golf Club versus Narin Portnoo Friendly was held in the Donegal Golf Club Murvagh. It was a lovely sunny day and both Captains expressed their delight and their luck at the weather turning out so good. Moragh Canney, Lady Captain Donegal Murvagh Golf Club welcomed the Narin and Portnoo ladies to Murvagh and said she hoped they had all enjoyed their day and the delicious meal provided by the caterers. The Narin/ Portnoo Lady Captain Marie McGovern said that she had been only delighted to accept the invitation by the Lady Captain of the Donegal Murvagh Golf Club, Moragh Canney to participate in the friendly, a competition that had been initiated by Grainne McCafferty during her Captains year but had not been followed up over the years and she looked forward to the Murvagh clubs return visit to Narin / Portnoo in September. The winners on the day were the Narin/Portnoo Ladies with the best five scores for each of the clubs being the deciding factor.The Results were as follows.Narin Portnoo Golf Club 178 pointsFrances Munelly 42 points (Overall winner), May McCann 36, Annette McGettigan 34, Bernie Tonry 33, Eithne Devlin 33.Donegal Murvagh Golf Club 162 points: Lady Captain Moragh Canney 36,Vice Captain Mary Gillen 32, Gaye McGoldrick 32, Ursula Miller 31, Anne Marie McCormick 31.Men’s CompetitionsSunday 20th AprilThis Sunday’s competition was sponsored by La Bella Donna and was played off the Championship Blue Markers.On a lovely day for golf, the long course and some well placed pin positions was very well handled by the big hitting Charles Callaghan, who with a very good score of 39 points was three points ahead of the field. Martin Carr, who is adjusting very well with his new irons came in in second place on 36 points, just holding off Pettigo man, Jason Maguire on a BOT. Captain in waiting, Gerry Forde took fourth place with 35 points. Darren Rafferty won the Gross Prize with a solid 27 gross points.Results; 1st Charles Callaghan (13) 39pts. 2nd. Darren Rafferty (6) 27 ptsNext Sundays Competition is sponsored by Supervalu.Team News.Frank Cooke had his J B Carr team away in Rossapenna last weekend and they were just pipped.The Ulster Cup Team were in Killymoon on Sunday the 19th to play the return leg of this competition, but failed to progress to next round.Thursday Specials:After a wet start for our first outing of 2015, normal service resumed and the weather was perfect for the past two outing, with nearly 50 players turning out each weeks. The race for player of year starts next week 23rd April with our first 15 hole competition.The winner on the 9th April was Joe Craig with an excellent score of 23pts, 2nd Place went to Conor McNulty with 22pts and Charlie McGinty claimed 3rd place with 20pts on a break of tie. Raymond Nolan was the best of the past players with 14pts.This week we had a 3 club completion, the winner with a very impressive score of 23 pts was John “Cookie” Meehan, 2nd Place for the second time in 2015 went to Martin Travers with 22 Points and Roy Harron had the best of the 21pts returned to claim 3rd place on a break of tie. The prize for Past Members was won by Darren Williamson with 19 Points.Our Annual Spring outing will be taking place on Saturday 25th April at Cruit Island Golf Club.
