Panathinaikos Ties PSV Eindhoven, 1-1

first_imgTweetPinShare0 Shares Perennial Greek soccer power Panathinaikos, which doesn’t fare well in European competition, drew 1-1 at the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven on Oct. 23 but  PASOK and Asteris Tripolis lost their games.The tie gave the Greens their first point in European play and seemed to have won in injury time only to have the goal disallowed.The game opened badly when Eindhoven’s Memphis Depay counterattacked during some confusion in the Greek side defense and he scored after hitting a crossbar earlier.But three minutes before the game ended in regulation time Panathinaikos got the equalizer from Nikos Karelis, who scored after a shot from Mladen Petric was blocked but the ball rebounded to him and he headed it to Karelis.PAOK lost 1-0 to the Italian side Fiorentina which overwhelmed the Thessaloniki club.  that seemed at times to be a class above its host, especially during the first half.Fiorentina scored 38 minutes into the game as Peruvian Juan Vargas beat Panayiotis Glykos after getting the rebound from a save by the PAOK keeper to his first shot, for the game’s only goal. Vargas also hit the upright in the second half.Asteras Tripolis was humiliated in England, destroyed by Tottenham, 5-1, although despite the loss the Greek team still has four points in three games. Their only goal came from Jeronimo Barrales a minute before the end on a free kick to avert a whitewash. They meet again in two weeks in Tripoli.last_img read more
