Herstelling man kills battered reputed wife

first_imgAnother woman is dead at the hands of her allegedly abusive partner – 32-year-old Lowtie Atwaroo, called “Mona”, of Lot 221 Plantation Walk, Herstelling New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD).According to Police reports, the incident occurred about 21:00h on Monday when Atwaroo went to visit her reputed husband, 38-year-old Daniel Watson.Investigations revealed that Atwaroo moved out of the couple’s home at Lot 1262 Plantation Walk, Herstelling over two months ago after being allegedly abused by Watson. However, they allegedly continued a visiting relationship.Reports are that about 20:30h on Monday, the woman went to visit her reputed husband and shortly after was seen submerged in a drain.Watson reportedly fled the scene, but was later apprehended and was now in Police custody assisting with investigations. Atwaroo’s body is at the Lyken Funeral Parlour awaiting a post-mortem examination.According to the woman’s father, he and his 40-year-old son heard a female’s voice calling out for help. They recalled that when they ran outside to investigate, they saw the suspect submerging Atwaroo in a trench about 50 feet away from their house. As such, the men reportedly began to shout at him while running to their relative’s assistance. The suspect then fled the scene.Atwaroo’s brother allegedly pulled her out of the trench after observing that she was motionless.When Guyana Times visited the home the couple had shared, neighbours expressed their surprise at the incident and described Watson as “quiet and easygoing” while they claim that Atwaroo was an aggressor. They confirmed the couple parted ways over two months ago, but revealed that the dead woman would frequent the man’s home.“Mother’s Day, she (Atwaroo) come here and jump the fence and then she start breaking up all he windows and so. He wasn’t home and we stand up right here and see that happening and when I holler on she, she start cussing up and get on. He report she to the Police, but then went back and beg for she, but she used to treat he bad,” a neighbour said.Another neighbour told this publication that they last saw Watson about 18:30h on Monday.The Police investigation is ongoing.last_img
