Tiger Woods Still Not Sure Back Will Be Ready

Two weeks from the start of the Masters Tournament and Tiger Woods says his back is still not strong enough for him to commit to being at the No. 1 tee box on April 10.Woods pulled out of Arnold Palmer’s tournament last week, citing back pain. He had withdrawn from his previous event two weeks before that because of back troubles.“For Augusta, it’s actually still a little too soon, to be honest with you,” Woods said Monday at a news conference to announce that Quicken Loans is the new title sponsor of his golf tournament. “That’s kind of the frustrating thing about this.”Woods, 38, has never missed the Masters in his illustrious 18-year career. He’s won four green jackets that come with claiming the season’s first major tournament, at Augusta National.  It was there in 1997 where he captured his first major. His last time winning the Masters was 2005.Never has Woods gotten off to a worse start to a season. He stopped playing in the final round at the Honda Classic on March 2 because of what he called back spasms and pain in his lower back. He tried to defend his title the following week at Doral, only for his back to flare up again in the final round, when he shot a 78, the highest Sunday score of his PGA Tour career and his first closing round without a birdie. Then last week, Woods withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational because of persistent back pain.“I’ve had a couple weeks off and getting treatment and just working on trying to get ready for Augusta,” Woods said Monday. “As of right now, it’s still too soon, which is, as I said, pretty frustrating.”This isn’t the first year Woods has claimed back troubles.  At Bethpage Black at The Barclays in 2012, his back pain flared up. He said the issue was a soft bed. He said he felt twinges during the final round of the PGA Championship last year, and when his back bothered him in the final round of The Barclays two weeks later, he said it was unrelated. read more

The Rock Church has purchased the building that used to be known as “The Body Shop” in the Midway District. After 50 years in operation, the club closed last December and the property was put on the market. The Rock Church and a group of investors purchased the building a few months ago for $1.2 million.By purchasing the property, Pastor Miles McPherson said he was able to keep it out of the hands of buyers who would have opened another adult entertainment club. “There were other bids to make it a strip club,” McPherson said. The building in its present condition needs a lot attention, but the transformation that will occur here is also metaphoric. When the stage is removed and the poles are gone, there will be a clean slate, offering an array of possibilities. The Rock Church has not determined how it will use the building, but according to McPherson, “We can use it to help correct some of the ills that happened here and use it to do counseling for marriages, we can use it to treat sexual addiction, we can have church here on Sunday, counseling, job training; all kinds of things to help people renovate their lives.”Sheri Brown, who founded a ministry that reaches out to women who work in the adult entertainment industry was also excited.“I’d love to make this a hope center for women, so for me, it’s amazing – an actual place they can come, that’s kind of like the church outside of the church.”While this property has switched hands, signaling one kind of transformation, the entire Midway District is primed for even bigger changes that will revitalize the area.Next month, a proposal for an update to the Midway District’s community plan will be presented to the city, with recommendations for development, and creating more parks, open space and family friendly housing. The community plan for the area has not updated since 1989. Cygnus Eliminates President Position Mike Martin To Lead Public Safety Group

first_imgCygnus Business Media is eliminating the “president” position and former president Mike Martin will lead the publisher’s Public Safety & Security group going forward. Martin became president of the company in 2007. The publisher says the move is the final appointment in a seven-month process to install a new, flatter organizational “architecture.” In July, Cygnus announced a new organization around four affinity groups: Aviation, Public Safety & Security, Building & Construction and Agriculture. Each was to be headed by an executive vice president who acts as a point person for Cygnus in their particular market, overseeing sales, content and market for their brands.Public Safety & Security is Cygnus’ largest group, generating more than 1.5 million uniques each month across sites such as Officer.com. “We have a very aggressive footprint in the public safety & security sector and it is by far an area where market share could be challenged without the right person guiding it,” said Cygnus CEO John French. “I can think of no better person to affect, grow and innovate these brands under our new architecture than Mike.”last_img read more

Happy Death Day 2U review Horrorcomedy keeps dying to reinvent itself

first_imgHappy Death Day 2U, in theatres now, at first aims to expand this concept by trapping bumbling science student Ryan (Phi Vu) into a new time loop, one that Tree and her new boyfriend Carter (Israel Broussard from To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) aim to stop with the help of students working in the school’s science lab. Unfortunately, the science behind the time loops of both Happy Death Day films is the least interesting part of the films. While alternate dimensions and the multiverse might add great fun to Star Trek: Discovery, Marvel movies and time-travel films like Back to the Future Part II, in Happy Death Day 2U the ideas come across like a dull, sleepy science class. That said, once the science is over, Happy Death Day 2U veers back to its core: telling a ridiculous story full of amusing death sequences and funny banter among characters, a few of whom are as cartoony as ever. As the trailers reveal, Tree gets stuck in a new time loop but with her world remixed, and the movie franchise’s genre along with it. Nearly all of the first movie’s characters return thanks to this premise. Some are totally different, others appear much the same but have different relationships. And instead of necessarily having to solve her own murder, Tree’s trying to figure out whether to restore her original life or embrace a new timeline that feels like an idealized version of her life.Film Title: Happy Death Day 2UCarter (Israel Broussard) and Tree (Jessica Rothe) hope to end the time loop that the latter has been stuck in for two movies. Universal Pictures Seeing all of the characters return and some of the first film’s sequences revisited in a slightly different setting is a plus for anyone who enjoyed the original film, but anyone hopping into 2U without watching the first film will likely lose out on these references. At first glance for fans of the original movie, each of these scenes seems like a re-creation of what was already told the first time. However, thanks to the premise, the twists and deaths keep changing. And unfortunately for Tree, this also means even more dying and reliving the same day over and over — which at this point she handles with expertise during a montage of her killing herself in a variety of ridiculous ways. The film’s third act takes one more genre-hop into becoming a heist film, and with that turn another actress, Rachel Matthews, gets to shine as Danielle, Tree’s attention-demanding frenemy. Matthews brings absurd character acting to a hilarious bait-and-switch scene that nearly steals the spotlight from the entire film. While Happy Death Day 2U can still be classified as a horror film, it clearly doesn’t want to stay in just that genre. Thanks to its lighthearted tone, it’s found a way to reinvent itself again. Should there be a Happy Death Day 3, fans will likely expect the movie to find another way to die and reinvent itself again.See GameSpot’s take on Happy Death Day 2U. 2:33 Jessica Rothe’s Tree returns to Happy Death Day 2U, and she’s still dying all over this film. Universal Pictures With the new horror-comedy Happy Death Day 2U, it’s time to die again, and again, and again, just like in the 2017 movie Happy Death Day it follows. But this time, things are a bit different.Following the Groundhog Day premise of the first movie, the wackier and funnier sequel initially seems like it’ll move the story of Tree (Jessica Rothe) forward from the literal last second of the first film. She spent that whole movie trapped in a time loop on her birthday, getting killed by her jealous college roommate and waking up having to relive the day until she solved the murder. Chinese yuan to become international currency by 2020 Central Bank Governor

first_imgChina will deliver a slew of economic and financial reforms over the next five years, which will help the yuan become an international currency by 2020, central bank governor Zhou Xiaochuan said in an article. The reforms will also include improving central bank communications and guiding market expectations to enhance monetary policy, Zhou wrote in the Caixin article published on the magazine’s website.Zhou said the government will strengthen supervision of its financial system to prevent “systemic risk”, explaining China’s proposed 13th Five-Year economic plan for the years 2016 to 2020.The comments around policy priorities come amid growing doubts in global markets about China’s commitment to see through comprehensive financial reforms. Those doubts were sparked after Beijing intervened in the stock markets during a share price rout that started in June and saw the main Shanghai Composite Index plunge as much as 40 percent.Beijing has also intervened in its currency market after an abrupt devaluation by the central bank in August caused widespread worries over the yuan’s future value.Zhou said China will foster new mechanisms to promote financial liberalisation and development, as well as “enhance the efficiency of the financial system to serve the real economy.””It will effectively use and develop financial risk control tools, and reduce levels of leverage so as to prevent systemic risk,” he said.Zhou pledged to improve central bank communications on policy intentions, but didn’t offer details on whether policy makers will provide routine briefings to accompany rate announcements similar to other developed economies.last_img read more
