K200,000 raised for Team PNG from Trukai auction

first_imgCorporate companies opened their wallets, buying Fun Run shirts for 100 different schools in the nation’s capital. 2000 shirts were sold on the night.K200,000 was raised from bidding for shirts for the schools plus an additional K5,555 from the sale of the North Queensland Cowboys premiership winning jersey signed by Jonathan Thurston.The Institute of Business Studies (IBS) topped the bidding list, buying K33,000 worth of Fun Run shirts.The Cancer Foundation was sponsored with the highest number of shirts – 900 shirts bought by Trukai Industries Ltd.Chef de Mission to Rio, Emma Waiwai expressed her thanks for all the support over the two nights of auctioning.She said the money will go a long way in ensuring Team PNG is ready for the Olympics later in August.The auction in Lae on Wednesday raised K172,000 plus an additional K4,100 from the sale of another jersey signed by Thurston.Around K381,655 was raised from the two auctions.So far, three athletes have qualified for the Olympics – Ryan Pini (swimming), Samantha Kassman and Maxemillion Kassman (taekwondo).last_img
